About CHERYL EMERSON ADAMS

CHERYL EMERSON ADAMS Please note: The words "Fine Art America" do not appear on prints or other items purchased here. The "Fine Art America" marking is there to help artists protect their copyrighted art from online theft. For most of the items for sale, you - the visitor to my website - can adjust the background color and the size of the artwork image on the item to suit your personal taste or go with your decor. Click on the painting, that takes you to the page where you can play with the artwork. Try it... it's fun! Now... a little bit about the artist: Art Media and Focus: I love to do anything creative, I love to learn about everything. I dont limit myself to one type of art, or one medium, although I most often work in pencil, colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic paint, or clay. Art Background: high school art & design classes; West Hartford Art League, sculpture classes; college fine art (including bronze casting) & art history classes; Reston Sketch Group, figure drawing; Lassie Corbets art studio in Herndon, VA, watercolor painting; Goodson Recreation Center, pottery; Arapahoe Community College drawing & pottery; ArtMakers Denver, workshops. As with any skill, many, many hours of practice make perfect or closer to perfect! It helped that when I was a little girl, Dad was a computer guy who brought home reams and reams of used computer paper the big kind thats green and covered with dot-matrix printing on one side and gloriously blank and ready for drawing on the other side. And it helps to visit and sometimes draw or paint (with permission) in museums, read art books, watch online art videos, and listen to other artists talk about what theyre doing. Where Im From: I grew up in rural Connecticut, went to college in Massachusetts, and lived in the Washington D.C. area for nearly 20 years (worked for the Federal Aviation Administration, across the street from the Smithsonian museums). In 2004, I moved to Colorado with my husband and son. Education: B.A. Psychology, Mt. Holyoke College; J.D. Law, George Mason U. School of Law. Whats the Point?: We artists always have to say something about why our art is special, or different, or worthy of your attention. My answer: When I create art, I try to bring you to a different place, into a story, or a mode of thought that is in some way different from the ordinary here and now. I like art that suggests a journey, an adventure, or an escape. I spend a lot of time looking at the colors and shapes of real places of great natural beauty, understanding and memorizing the interaction of shapes and colors so I can bring the sense of a real place to a purely imaginary painted landscape. I like the visual richness of details, the complicated shapes of tree roots, the colors and patterns in a ripe peach, the way stripes of frosting flow over a chocolate truffle, the way a shadow falls in a fold of cloth. These details draw me in, make me appreciate the world around me more. I try to make art that shares this with you. Update 2019: Many of you already know that I started a new career recently, as an attorney with Watson & Associates, LLC. I practice exclusively U.S. federal government contracting law. For those of you who found my commentary on FineArt America entertaining, and possibly even informative, perhaps someday I will practice copyright, and intellectual property law for artists. Intellectual property law for visual artists continues to interest me, but for now, this is not a legal service that my employer offers. Because of the time commitment my law practice requires, I am no longer actively involved in any art guilds or art galleries, and I no longer show. I am able to make time to teach an art class. I treasure every moment I spend with my students. You can still purchase my cards and crafts at: Caboodle Gifts, 1507 S.
